Jacob has been in the software industry for six years. He started with digital hardware engineering in college and jumped over to embedded software development after graduating, working primarily with web servers running on resource-limited devices. From there, he branched out into network protocol implementation, embedded device security, and lifecycle management for shipping software. He's been a team lead, a ScrumMaster, and an individual contributor at multiple levels in the software stack.

Today, Jacob is focusing his contributions towards newer web technologies, including WebSocket and HTTP/2. He's the current maintainer of mod_websocket for Apache httpd. You can usually find him hanging around #httpd on freenode IRC.

When he's off work, Jacob has been known to pull out a trumpet and play with a local pep band. And Mt. Hood and the Gorge are always calling...
